Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS)

TRISOnline

TRIS Online is the largest and most comprehensive source of information on published transportation research on the Web.

TRIS Online is a joint project between the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) and the Transportation Research Board. In January 1999, BTS and TRB signed a memorandum of understanding to make available the Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS) Database on the Internet through the National Transportation Library's (NTL) Web site. TRB continues to produce and maintain the TRIS Database with funding by sponsors of TRB, primarily the State departments of transportation and selected federal transportation agencies. BTS makes TRIS available on the NTL's Web site as TRIS Online.

TRIS Online provides access to almost 550,000 records of published transportation research through a user-friendly searchable database. Over 500 serial publications are regularly indexed and abstracted for the database. TRIS Online includes material indexed and abstracted by TRB as well as the material entered by the Transportation Libraries at the University of California at Berkeley and Northwestern University. The Research in Progress files and the international material in the International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) Database are not available as part of TRIS Online.

TRIS Online not only provides access to the bibliographic records and abstracts found in TRIS but it also provides the value-added of links to the full text of public-domain documents or document suppliers. Currently there are over 44,000 TRIS records with links to electronic copies of the full-text of the reports or papers. About 300,000 TRIS Online records have links to direct ordering information from the publishers.
